New Farmshop

Huddersfield for Hinchliffes

Full Planning Approval for the redevelopment of Hinchliffe's Farm was granted in late 2013. In granting approval, Kirklees Councillors and Planning Officers described it as "an excellent scheme". The completed project was named "Best Commercial Development" in Huddersfield Civic Society's Annual Design Awards in 2021.

Working closely with Savills Planning Consultancy, Sense of Space led the masterplanning and detailed design process for the development to create a new visitor attraction, following a devastating fire in 2010 which destroyed much of the existing farm.

Refurbishment of Listed Terrace

Roundhay, Leeds

Refurbishment of Listed Terrace near Roundhay Park, Leeds returning the building to 5 dwellings.

Most recently used as the Parks Department Offices and Storage the terraces were in a poor state of repair and underwent significant refurbishment to be occupied as modernised family homes whilst maintaining the original and unique features of the building.

Planning Approvals

Three Country House Hotel Projects

In 2012, we obtained Planning Approval for three country house hotel projects within the Yorkshire Dales including work to the Grade II Listed Austwick Hall, Winterburn Manor and Hartrigg House.

Each application threw up its own challenge, not least the complexity associated with obtaining Planning Approval for any project within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

At Austwick Hall we gained approval for the conversion of former outbuildings to the rear of the property, linking them back to the main house with new common areas for the use of guests, whilst also improving the functionality for the building's owners.

At both Winterburn Manor and Hartrigg House, we have obtained approval for the change of use of these two existing dwellings into guest accommodation, creating common areas, ensuites to all bedrooms and separate family suites.

"I very much enjoyed working with Richard and Sense of Space while the Director of Regeneration at Bradford Centre Regeneration. The company did an excellent job for us designing a number of publicly funded projects including a futuristic visitor centre for the new City Park. Richard also actively supported Bradford Centre Regeneration’s wider regeneration plans through his involvement with the steering committee established to deliver sustainable student accommodation in the city centre. I would therefore happily recommend the company to those looking for blend of innovative thinking and pragmatic deliverable architectural solutions”.
